Backroad Radio 2011 Recap *3 HOUR SPECIAL*! (Jan 2nd, 2012)

Well, another year in hip hop has come and gone and what a year it was. On the backroad radio show we’ve always strived to bring you the best from the underground to the household and we wanted to recap what we felt was a great year for hip hop music. We ran through many of our favourite records from 2011. Even in 3 hours that was not an easy task as there was a lot of ground to cover! We discussed our fav albums, some of our highlights and lowlights for the year and compiled our starting 5 roster for the new school of MC’s that we’re excited about in 2012. Take a listen and add your 2 cents if you agree or disagree. Lastly, after you take in this show can you really tell us that hip hop is dead? Fuck outta here with that shit. 2012 ya’ll!

    Thanks. Looking forward to it.
As an old school head, I’m loving the classic sets. I still hear joints that i never did before e.g the onyx clean version of ” sucking…..” BIG TUNE.
although i struggle to really feel a lot of the newer content, i still continue to listen and support. We lost massacre and Freqs. So thank the lord y’all are still around and able to keep us up to par.

Coming from a head who was there when Maes opened for Kane.

    Peace

    Mendez,

much respect homie! We’re glad to have you listening, no matter which school you came from as we thoroughly support both the new school and old school and their importance to the culture. And especially now that Toronto only has a few true hip hop shows left we need that continued support from our listeners as well.

Personally I believe hip hop is alive and well although (yes there is more bullshit to sift through but dope shit is still out there) i totally can understand why some of the older heads can’t relate to the newer content.

Either way we’ll continue to do our best to bring you the best of the new and classic joints and we truly appreciate your dedication as a listener.
