Backroad Radio – Jan 23rd, 2012

Royale and Bozack brought the new music this week with joints galore. Brand new flavas from: T.I feat. Dr Dre, A$AP Rocky, Mr Exquire, LEP Bogus Boys feat. Meek Mill and more plus new Canadian content from: Kardinal Offishall, The Get By feat. Tanika Charles, Set 2, and others.

This past weekend was the birthday of the late great legendary Jam Master Jam. Big Jacks paid tribute to the trailblazing DJ with a throwback set spotlighting classic Run DMC tracks and other artists that came up under JMJ (ie. Onyx, 50 Cent, etc). RIP Jason Mizell.

Backroad Radio – Jan 16th, 2012

Backroad Radio (in our opinion) is the most all around hip hop show in Toronto and this week’s episode is evidence of that. We went everywhere in the hip hop world from the present to the past, north south, east and west.

It’s been 20 years since the release of the classic movie Juice and we took time this week to commemorate the film and discuss our fondest memories of it. Royale came with a special throwback dedicated to Q, Steele, Raheem and of course Bishop! If you don’t want to go back and watch the movie again after this set there’s something wrong with you!

On the backroad radio show we’ve always strived to bring you the best from the underground to the household and we wanted to recap what we felt was a great year for hip hop music. We ran through many of our favourite records from 2011. Even in 3 hours that was not an easy task as there was a lot of ground to cover! We discussed our fav albums, some of our highlights and lowlights for the year and compiled our starting 5 roster for the new school of MC’s that we’re excited about in 2012.
